The automatic gearbox includes, from front to back, a clutch (12) coupled to the engine (14) of the vehicle, a first shaft (16), a parallel second shaft (18), and a bridge (20) transmitting a driving force to the wheels of the vehicle, of the type which includes two meshing gears (24,26), each one associated with a gear ratio of the vehicle, and interposed between the first shaft (16) and the second shaft, each one having a fixed pinion (28,32) carried by the first shaft, and a free pinion (30,34), which is carried by the second shaft and which is capable of being clutched by an associated dog clutch (36,38). A free-wheeling device (52) is interposed between the second shaft and the dog clutch (36) of the loose pinion (30) associated with a determined transmission ratio.
