The invention relates to a gear change system for a vehicle automatic gearbox (3), especially for automobiles, that is controlled by an electronic control device (2). Said gear-change system comprises a first gear-change device (4) in which different gearbox speeds to be automatically changed can be manually selected. The gear-change system further comprises a second gear-change device (9) that is actuated by a selector device (5). In said second gear-change device the actuation device (5) is maintained in a neutral medium position from which it can be manually displaced in a first direction (15) to effect an upshift of gears and in a second direction (16) to effect a downshift of gears. Said shift movements of the selector device (5) are sensorically detected and are received by the control device (2) as signals. The second gear-change device (9) is further characterized by a shift position (-) for the selector device (5) for a simple downshift to the next lower gear and another shift position (--) for a maximum downshift to the gear with the lowest possible gear ratio and/or a shift position (+) for the selector device (5) for a simple upshift to the next higher gear and another shift position (++) for a maximum upshift to the gear with the highest possible gear ratio.
