Classification of fiber optic cable based on accurate determination of pulse dispersion by transmission of monochromatic light through 2 optical paths one including a test cable and imposition of frequency changes and time delays
Method for classifying a fiber optic cable (6) according to which a monochromatic light is transmitted along two separate paths, one of which contains the fiber being tested, with the light recombined at the output of the two paths. The light source is a pulsed light source (13) and the light intensity measured at the output is a frequency addition of the beams from the two paths. Accordingly the wavelength of light in one of the paths at least is changed and a number of time delays are imposed in the two paths. An independent claim is made for a device for classifying a fiber optic cable.
