The self-locking snap hook has a pivoting stirrup (5) whose lower end (7) engages with the lower end (3) of the hook to close it. When an axial force (F) is applied which exceeds a threshold value, the hook is slightly deformed and the end of the stirrup is locked in place by a lug (13) which fits into a seating (16) on the hook.
