PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction method for an underwater foundation structure allowing execution economically by preventing an excessive load from being applied to a bearing stratum after completion. ;SOLUTION: A caisson skeleton 10 is constituted of a skeleton lower section 10a having multiple cells 14, a skeleton upper section 10b having a hollow tube section 16, and a skirt section 10c. The caisson skeleton 10 is carried to a settlement site and sunk. When the caisson skeleton 10 is to be sunk, a solid ballast 26 such as gravels or crushed stones and a water ballast 28 such as sea water are injected into the cells 14. When the skirt section 10c intrudes into the underwater ground 12, the annular outer peripheral skirt section 10c is decompressed to apply a suction load W3. When the skirt section 10c intrudes to the prescribed depth of the underwater ground 12, the construction of an underwater foundation structure is completed. The ballast load (one or both of the load W1 by the solid ballast 26 and the load W2 by the water ballast 28) is reduced at proper timing after the caisson skeleton 10 is sunk.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
