PURPOSE: To miniaturize a printing head by mounting an identification circuit for feeding back the characteristics of a printing cartridge attached in order to ensure accurate printing operation on the integrated circuit of the cartridge without adding the connection pad or transmission route toward a printer. ;CONSTITUTION: An identification circuit 45 is equipped with programmable paths 48B respectively connected to the lines 48A of a resistor array circuit 44 having a selectively excitable heating element array arranged in a matrix form. The programmable paths 48B are programmed to an open path or a closed path preliminarily or later corresponding to the characteristics of respective heating elements by program elements due to a combination of fuses and active elements. This programmed data is successively fed back to the control unit of a printer 40 from a common line through an existing connection pad by polling.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
