PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a performance for decomposing bad odors and harzadous substances in air or environmental pollutants such as org. solvents and agricultural chemicals included in water and to provide excellent characteristics from viewpoints of safety, economy, stability and water resistance (it does not crack even if it is put into water) by providing concn. gradient of titanium oxide in the neighborhood of the surface of the silica gel. ;SOLUTION: In this silica gel, amt. of titanium oxide included in fine pores in the neighborhood of the surface of the silica gel with a mean pore diameter of 6-100 nm is made to be 7-70 wt.% and the concn. gradient is given in such a way that the amt. of the titanium oxide is at least 1.5-fold of amt. of titanium oxide included in pores in the neighborhood of the central part of the silica gel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
