PURPOSE:To obtain a new aminoalkylprrolidinylthocarbapenem derivative excellent in stability to beta-lactamase and DHP-1 and useful as an antimicrobal agent to gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria having sensitivity and resistance. CONSTITUTION:The new compound of formula I [R1 is H or methyl; R2 is H or negative charge; R3 is H, halogen, OH, lower alkoxy, amino, cyano, nitro, etc.; A is lower alkylene; X is N(R7)R8 (R7 and R8 are H or lower alkyl), etc., with the proviso that when A is straight-chain lower alkylene, R3 is not H], e.g. (5R, 6S)-2-[(2S,4S)-2-(1-aminomethyl-2-carbamoylethyl)pyrrolidin-4-ylthio]- 6-[(1 R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid. This compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (R12 is H or OH protecting group; R20 is H or carboxyl protecting group) with a compound of formula III [R13 is H or imino protecting group; R30 is H, halogen, OH, etc., X1 is N(R70)R80 (R70 and R80 are H, lower alkyl, etc.)].
