PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of sensors used for detecting vehicle positions. ;SOLUTION: The position of the first vehicle 9 is detected by sensors S1, S2, and the vehicle 9 is moved in with its right end section kept at a prescribed distance from the right end section of an inside parking room 7a regardless of its size. The position of the second vehicle 9' on a travel carriage 5 is detected by sensors S7, S8, and the vehicle 9' is stopped with its left end section kept at a prescribed distance from the left end section of the travel carriage 5 regardless of its size, therefore a fixed interval is always secured between the first vehicle 9 and the second vehicle 9'. Conveyors of the travel carriage 5 and the parking room 7 are synchronously operated to send the vehicle 9 to an outside parking room 7b and to send the vehicle 9' to the inside parking room 7 with the interval between the first vehicle 9 and the second vehicle 9' kept constant. The stop position of the first vehicle 9 in the outside parking room 7b is controlled, and the drop of the vehicle 9 from the outside parking room 7b can be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
