PURPOSE: To improve the season cracking resistance and deep drawability of a stainless steel by incorporating specified amounts C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr, Mo, Cu, Al, N and Fe therein. ;CONSTITUTION: The compsn. of this stainless steel is constituted of the one contg., by weight, 0.01 to 0.1% C, ≤1% Si, ≤3% Mn, 6 to 10% Ni, 15 to 19% Cr, 0.03 to 3% Mo, 1 to 4% Cu, 0.2 to 2.5% Al and ≤0.05% N, and the balance substantial Fe. C is an austenite forming element and is simultaneously effective for the strengthening of an austenitic phase and a strain induced martensitic phase. In the case of 1% its periodic crack sensitivity and intergranular corrosion sensitivity are made high. Mn works as a deoxidizing and desulfurizing agent and contributes to the stability of the austenitic phase. In the case of 3%, the austenitic phase is made too stable to deteriorate its deep drawability.
