PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct laser patterning planographic printing plate which enables direct plate making from digital data of a computer or the like using a laser, chiefly a laser which emits light at about 1,064 nm oscillation wavelength, can easily be produced and has high sensitivity and excellent storage stability and to provide an IR absorbent suitable for preparing the same.;SOLUTION: The negative- or positive-working direct laser patterning planographic printing plate has a layer containing at least one compound represented by formula (1) or (2) as an IR absorbent. In the formula (1), substituents of R₁-R₈ include a branched chain alkyl as at least one and may be the same or different; the rings A and B may have substituents; and X is an anion required to neutralize an electric charge.
