PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a catalyst which oxidizes hydrogen in a high selectivity rate in a gas containing hydrogen produced by the dehydrogenation reaction of hydrocarbons, hydrocarbons produced by the reaction and having olefinic unsaturated bonds and hydrocarbons as the source material.;SOLUTION: The catalyst for the catalytic oxidation of hydrogen in the gas containing hydrogen and hydrocarbons with oxygen is prepared by depositing platinum group elements and lanthanoid elements on a carrier selected from the group consisting of niobium oxide, titanium oxide and tantalum oxide. The catalyst is used for a method for selective oxidation of hydrogen and for a method for dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
