PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed of similarity calculation between two signals having a non-negative value.;SOLUTION: In a similarity calculating device 1, a vector converting part performs calculation for hierarchically roughing two inputted vector f and vector g and calculation for hierarchically increasing the correlation value. A hierarchical correlation part 12 hierarchically calculates the correlation value between two vectors. Only when the correlation value is a predetermined threshold R_th or more, the correlation part 12 calculates the correlation between the vectors in further details. When the correlation value does not exceed the predetermined threshold R_th, the correlation part 12 detects only a situation that the correlation value is the predetermined threshold R_th or less and aborts the correlation calculation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
