PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel filter material for an automobile which produces no foreign matter such as dropped fibers and which is excellent in durability, collecting property of particles, filter life, processing property to make a bag and handling property, and to provide a fuel filter for an automobile by using the above material. PSOLUTION: (1) The filter material is a joined body of a synthetic resin reinforcing material and a synthetic long-fiber nonwoven fabric. The synthetic long-fiber nonwoven fabric has 10 to 50 m average fiber diameter, 10 cc/cmSP2/SP/ sec air permeability, 10 to 100 m maximum aperture diameter measured by the bubble point method, 50 to 300 g/mSP2/SPunit weight, 0.1 to 0.45 g/cmSP3/SPaverage apparent density and 3 to 30% partial thermo-pression bonding rate. (2) The fuel filter material for an automobile is obtained by superposing the sheets of the above filter material for an automobile with the synthetic long fiber nonwoven fabrics inside and then heat sealing the peripheral edges to form a bag.
