PURPOSE:To manufacture lead dioxide at low cost with a simple device by injecting an electrolyte containing a specified lead powder and a neutral salt into the positive electrode chamber of a fluidized bed electrolytic cell, and conducting electrolytic oxidation. CONSTITUTION:In a tank 7, 80l of water, 10kg of lead powder, and 10kg of sodium sulfate are stirred to prepare an electrolyte 8. In a tank 13, 90l of water and 10kg of sodium sulfate are stirred to prepare a sodium sulfate solution 12. The electrolyte 8 and solution 12 in the tanks 7, 13 are injected to the positive electrode chamber 2 and negative electrode chamber 3 of an electrolytic cell 11 by pumps 9, 14, respectively. A voltage of 6.3-6.5V is applied between a positive electrode plate 5 and a negative electrode plate 6 to conduct electrolytic oxidation. The electrolyte 8 and the solution 12 are circulated through passages 10, 15 by the pumps 9, 14, whereby lead dioxide is precipitated in the lower part of the tank 7. This is taken out through a drain valve 11. About 2kg of lead dioxide can be provided in about 6 hours.
