PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to shorten a pulse of a charged particle with nonrelativistic energy by making a structure where an electric field whose intensity varies with time in accordance with a specific function is generated and a device that generates the electric field is forcibly cooled.;SOLUTION: A device for bunching a charged particle beam with nonrelativistic energy such as a slow positron beam has an induction system 10 that further bunches pulses of positron beams with kinetic energy of 1 eV to 1 MeV generated by a prescribed method. The induction system 10 is composed of a conductive member 12, a ferromagnetic core 11 and a coaxial cable 15 that applies voltage to the conductive member 12. When a prescribed negative definite quadric waveform voltage is applied, the difference between potentials generated at both ends of a gap 16 decelerates positrons at the front and accelerates those at the end to compress a time range. Since the rise in the temperature of the core 11 degrades its magnetic property, the heat emission from the core 11 is absorbed by a prescribed cooling device to control the rise in temperature.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
