METHOD OF SAVING LABOR FOR APPLE TREE DEFOLIATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective method of saving the labor for apple tree defoliation and provide the materials therefor.;SOLUTION: The defoliation labor for apple trees can be saved by deforming the leaves with a seaweed extract. The seaweed is preferably selected from Ecklonia and Ecklonia buccinalis is most preferred. The seaweed extract is applied to the apple trees in the daytime at ≥25°C, when the apple fruits are fully grown, in a proper amount. The apple leaves treated with the extract are rolled inside and deformed to a boat shape and can be made upright. Thus, the amount of the light reaching the tree crowns is increased and the fruits are irradiated with an increased amount of sun light whereby apples having no color unevenness, good coloration and high sugar content can be produced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
