PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glow discharge lamp such as a glow starter in which sputtering of an electrode active material is essentially improved and the starting characteristics under a dark condition is enhanced by reducing the required time for lighting and lighting equipment having the glow discharge lamp.;SOLUTION: The glow discharge lamp has a discharge vessel 1, a pair of electrodes 2 and 3, and an emissive material 4 made of a zinc alloy containing not less than 50 wt.% zinc and supported by a discharge medium and at least the electrode 3 of the pair of electrodes 2 and 3. As the zinc alloy, a zinc - nickel alloy can be used. In this case, appropriate nickel content range is 2 to 15 wt.%. As the zinc alloy used as the emissive material 4 has relatively high fusing point compared to that of zinc, vanish by sputtering is restrained and discharge starting time is reduced through a life warrant period and also the voltage rise of discharge start is significantly small as gas discharge is reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
