PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cemented carbide cutting tool whose wear resistance coating layer exhibits a superior heat resisting plastic deformation property. ;SOLUTION: This surface coated cemented carbide cutting tool is formed by physically evaporating the wear resistance coating layer on the surface of a tool base formed of a tungsten carbide base cemented carbide or titanium carbonitride group thermet. The wear resistance coating layer includes (a) a lower layer having an average layer thickness of 1 to 10 μm, which is formed by a composite nitride layer of Ti, Al and Si satisfying X: 0.4 to 0.7, Y: 0.05 to 0.20 by atom ratio in the measurement on the central area in the direction of thickness of Auger spectral analysis when being expressed by a composition formula: (Ti1-(X+Y)AlXSiY)N, and (b) an upper layer having an average layer thickness of 1 to 10 μm, which is formed by a composite nitride layer of Ti, V and Si satisfying A: 0.2 to 0.5, B: 0.05 to 0.20 by atom ratio in the measurement on the central area in the direction of thickness of Auger spectral analysis when being expressed by a composition formula: (Ti1-(A+B)VASiB)N.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
