PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and securely realize uniform dispersion of SiC particles in a Mg-based, dispersion strengthened composite material, without any special facility, complicated step, difficult setting of conditions or risk of generating cracks in a preform.;SOLUTION: SiC particles are heated in an oxidized atmosphere to form SiO2 layers on their surfaces and added to molten Mg or Mg alloy, which is subsequently subjected to casting to manufacture the Mg-based composite material wherein SiC reinforcement particles are uniformly dispersed in a matrix of Mg or Mg alloy.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
