PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved process for the production of benzaldehyde with 40-50% selectivity by the catalytic liquid phase air oxidation of toluene using a composite catalytic system.;SOLUTION: The improved process for the production of the benzaldehyde with 40-50% selectivity by the liquid phase air oxidation of the toluene is carried out by using the composite catalytic system. Furthermore, the composite catalytic system comprises salts of iron, cobalt, manganese, molybdenum or nickel as a recyclable catalyst and salts of manganese or copper as a recyclable co- catalyst and cobalt bromide, sodium bromide, sodium chloride and zinc bromide as promoter.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
