PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording tape device which enables a head to follow up a track when LTM (lateral tape motion) is large, a recording/ reproducing method for a magnetic recording tape, and a servo device and a servo method for the magnetic recording tape.;SOLUTION: This magnetic recording tape device is provided with a tape driving means for moving a magnetic recording tape 4 having a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic support along a tape route, a magnetic head block 5 for recording/reproducing at least the magnetic recording tape 4, an edge detecting means 6 for detecting the position of the edge E of the magnetic recording tape 4, and position adjusting means (7, 8) for adjusting the position of the magnetic head block 5 with respect to the magnetic recording tape 4 in accordance with the position of the edge E detected by the edge detecting means 6. For example, rough positioning is carried out, and further fine positioning is carried out for the magnetic head block 5 with respect to the magnetic recording tape 4 in accordance with a servo track pattern formed in the magnetic recording tape 4.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
