PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing such an ultraviolet absorber for a thermoplastic polymer as to be able to give a molded article retaining its inherent clarity without detriment to the workability and work environment in the kneading step or in the molding step of a kneaded product even when the absorber is mixed and kneaded into polyethylene terephthalate or polycarbonate which requires excellent storageability and heat resistance, inherently has high clarity, and requires high kneading temperature and molding temperature; and an ultraviolet absorber for a thermoplastic polymer.;SOLUTION: The ultraviolet absorber contains a specific cyclic iminoester compound as a substantial component and has an acid value of 1×10^-3-1 and a chlorine concentration of 1×10^-1-1×10³ ppm.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
