PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easy to change settings of an optical information reader. ;SOLUTION: To generate a setting bar code for changing the settings of the optical information reader, items whose values are different from their default values are extracted from respective setting items that a user changes and bar code source data are generated. Consequently, the setting bar code can be generated, which can change a plurality of setting items at a time with a less number of sheets. Further, when the amount of information to be encoded is large and the length of the setting bar code exceeds a specific value, the information to be encoded is divided into a plurality of parts so that the length of the setting bar code is less than the specific value, and the setting bar code is composed of a plurality of sheets.
