PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an activated coke having excellent productivity which enables the production of the activated coke with high efficiency by using a surface current type fluidization oven. SOLUTION: In the upper part of a fluidization oven body 2, a charge inlet 26 for a material (a) to be treated and an exhaust port 27 for an exhaust gas are provided, and on its side, a discharge outlet 25 for a treated product (b) is provided, and in its lower part, gas supply ports 41-44 for supplying a fluidization gas are provided. The inner part of the fluidization oven body 2 where fluidized layers are formed is vertically partitioned by baffle plates 31, 32, and 33 to form a plurality of fluidization zones 21, 22, 23, and 24, and the material (a) to be treated is allowed to move from the inlet side of the fluidization zone 21 toward the outlet side of the fluidization zone 24 while successively overflowing the above baffle plates 31, 32, and 33 to effect continuous and stepwise fluidization treatment.
