PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set capable of changing incoming call modes in accordance with the opposite receiving party. ;SOLUTION: When an incoming call is received in the case a speech communication mode is set in an automatic telephone answering mode, a group to which a telephone number of the opposite party belongs is recognized on the basis of the telephone number when the incoming call is received (S1 to S3). If the recognized group coincides with a group set in the automatic telephone answering mode, an automatic telephone answering message is transmitted to the opposite receiving party (S5 and S6).
