PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection apparatus and inspection method for coiled bodies of tapes which are capable of reducing a cost and improving a product yield by sorting the defective and non-defective tapes without undergoing a tape rewinding process step and a tape take-up mechanism and tape take-up method.;SOLUTION: The appearance shape of a feed pancake 6 is measured by the tape inspection apparatus 10 before the magnetic tape M is wound around a tape reel R. The defective tape section appears in the appearance shape of the feed pancake 6 and therefore this section is detected by a laser displacement sensor 101 and the presence point of the defective tape section is specified. When the defective tape section exists in a position not satisfying the winding length of the tape of the product cassette, such section is recovered by defective tape recovering means.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
