PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load estimate method by a rotation fluctuation amount method wherein influence by inertia moment is corrected. ;SOLUTION: This load estimate method for the internal combustion engine is provided with a rotation fluctuation amount calculating step capable of calculating at least a rotation fluctuation amount of an output shaft before and after the compression top dead center based on a detected rotation amount of the output shaft of the internal combustion engine, and a load estimate step for estimating a load of the internal combustion engine based on an inertia rotation fluctuation amount near the compression top dead center calculated by the rotation fluctuation amount calculating step when the internal combustion engine is in an unignition operation state and a load rotation fluctuation amount calculated by the rotation fluctuation amount calculating step when the internal combustion engine is in an ignition operation state. The influence by the inertia moment is corrected and the load is estimated. Therefore, the load is stably determined even when the inertia moment is varied.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
