PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus, an image processor, a dust detecting method, storage medium and program wherein both dust displayed brightly and dust displayed darkly can be adequately detected, and dust detecting process more precise than the conventional case is enabled. SOLUTION: An image processing system provided with a moving document reading function is equipped with a dust detection processor 130 for detecting dust which interrupts a light reflecting from a reading object original manuscript at a fixed reading position. When a measurement chart for dust detection in which two kinds of backgrounds different in reading luminance level are formed is read by a CCD line sensor, the processor 130 performs dust detection processing about a plurality of lines, corresponding to the displayed result of the respective backgrounds, and outputs the dust detection result on the basis of dust detection processing for the plurality of lines.
