An ethylene glycol mixture comprises diethylene glycol monobutylether in addition to ethylene glycol and sorbitol. As a result thereof the ethylene glycol mixture exhibits a high dielectric strength (up to 600 V), a low water content and self-extinguishing properties for employment as electrolyte in an aluminum electrolytic capacitor. An aluminum electrolytic capacitor with the ethylene glycol mixture can be used with voltages up to 600 V.
