Describes a substrate of a cutting element for use with an earth boring bit. the substrate includes a base, an outer sheath, with a cavity open towards a respective end. The base is composed of a material resistant to erosion and abrasion. A core having a substantially complementary configuration to that of the cavity is arranged in the cavity. Blade is made of a more ductile material than the base material. The core and the base each include a cutting end which can be fixed superabrasive cutting table, such as a polycrystalline diamond compact. The substrate may be fixed in a corresponding receptacle of a bit body for securing a superabrassive cutting table to the bit body in a desired orientation. The present invention also encompasses methods of manufacture of the cutting element substrate.
