One or more users (10A-10C) and/or organisers in remote locations are allowed to play a game, enter a game of chance, take part in dexterity tests and/or take part in competitions via a wired and/or wireless network (12) such as an intranet, extranet or cable network or the internet. These activities, which may optionally overlap, can be e.g. party games (17A), card games, educative games, dice games, lotteries, fairground attraction-type ball throwing or catapulting, route games or speed races. The games are played and/or observed using at least one device chosen from a fixed or portable computer (14A), a cordless phone (14D), a television set (19A) with an external set-top box (19B), internal set-top box technology and/or game console (19F), an interactive network screen or beamer (19G) or a hand-held mobile electronic communication device. The interactive network screen can be in a room or a sports stadium, or it can form an advertisement. A combination of a games software (14B), remote controlled devices (15) and the associated software (15B) and video technology (16A), optionally linked to additional software and hardware (14C) are used to play and/or watch the games. The games software includes an interface, graphics card control, network protocol, interactive control, sensor reception, point counting, rules, instructions and links. The additional software and hardware includes a membership database, payment system, custom reward system, games database, encryption, macrocodes, secured-line service, promotions and shopping.
