A TLC apparatus, used to perform multi-informative thin-layer-chromatography, involves developing linear flow pattern for the moving-phase in this device, by partially covering the TLC plate with a plate, that is impervious to the moving phase, and leaving one or both ends uncovered. The moving phase evaporates at the uncovered ends and concentrates its solutes. An independent claim is included for an apparatus used in the above method, with a single or several fixed sensors for constantly monitoring the components of the moving phase passing under the cover.
