An expendable infra-red (IR) radiator comprises decoy plates (11) housed within a rupturable container (1). The decoy plates comprise a composition of metal and an oxidant capable of an exothermic combustion reaction upon ignition. An expendable IR radiator comprises a rupturable container; decoy plates housed within the rupturable container and an ignition mechanism for igniting the decoy plates. The decoy plates comprise a composition of a metal and an oxidant capable of an exothermic combustion reaction upon ignition. The composition being such that the combustion reaction produces negligible radiation in the visible or UV regions, following completion of the combustion reaction. The decoy plate comprises hot metal emitting IR radiation.
