The gas-heated infra-red radiator for an infra-red drying unit has a radiator housing (1) divided by a gas-permeable burner plate (4) into a distribution chamber (5) for the gas-air mixture and a combustion chamber (6). To the rear side of the radiator housing a mixture tube (10) is connected, via which a gas-air mixture is fed to the distribution chamber. The burner plate contains a number of through channels (7), the cross-section of which widens in at least one stage in the direction of the combustion chamber. The cross-sectional widenings of the channels within the burner plate are arranged along a shaft running vertically to the flow direction.
