In conventional Passive Optical Networks (PON), the network signals are split using a passive optical splitter before being fed to signal converters at the subscriber's premises. The present terminal uses individual optical transmitter/receivers (14, 15,17,21) at each end of intermediate lengths of optical fiber (16,18).
