The installation is for milking a cow (1) and comprises a box (2) with a principally horizontal floor (4). The floor is provided with a grid comprising components movable in relation to each other by a movement unit. The installation is provided with a presence detector (12) which emits a signal when an animal is in the box. The grid part movement unit is controlled with the aid of the presence signal. When the presence signal indicates that there is no animal in the box, the grid part movement unit is so controlled that the grid parts are located in a rest position. The box is provided with an exit and a vacation device which emits a signal to the grid part movement unit so that the grid parts induce an animal to vacate the box via the outlet.
