The stacker is designed to stack the envelopes (1) from the bottom and comprises a stack holder, a transport mechanism (5) for supplying and positioning full envelopes and a drive mechanism. The stack holder has a rear surface, two lateral guides, two intermittent spoon-shaped supports and a lifting plate. These parts of the holder slant at an angle towards the rear surface when in the stack support position. The transport mechanism includes a device (6) for detecting the arrival of full envelopes. The drive mechanism is used to rotate the envelope closure rolls (8, 9), move the transport mechanism backwards and forwards and move the lifting plate and supports. The transport mechanism, stop, lifting plate and supports combine to supply successive full envelopes to the bottom of the stack. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement comprising at least two of these stackers positioned in series downstream from a common envelope supply path.
