Described are silyl amine compounds that have a proton available for covalent bonding to a metallocene metal centre. Also described are methods for the synthesis of Formula I silyl amines. The silyl amine compounds described have the generic formula (I), in which X is H or F; R1, R2, R3 is an alkyl or aryl group or a combination of alkyl or aryl groups; R4 is H. Preferably R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different C1 or C10 alkyl groups.
