NAC1 - a plant gene encoding a transcription factor involved in cotyledon and lateral root development

A nucleic acid with the sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 and a protein of sequence ID NO:2 encode a NAC family member, NAC1. Also described are transgenic plants comprising the nucleic acid and a method to grow genetically altered plants larger than a wild-type plant by over-expressing the NAC1 protein in the altered plant.
