PURPOSE: A reciprocating compressor with structure for reducing discharge pulse is provided to reduce discharge pulse without reducing compression efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A reciprocating compressor includes a pair of discharge mufflers mounted on the lower portion of a cylinder block; a first and a second refrigerant passages(137,138) for communicating a pair of discharge mufflers(133a,133b) with a refrigerant discharge chamber of the cylinder head respectively; a pair of muffler covers for sealing the discharge mufflers respectively; a connecting pipe for connecting the muffler cover respectively; a refrigerant discharge pipe connected to a side communicating with the second refrigerant passage of the muffler covers(134a,134b). The first and the second refrigerant passage are formed so that a sectional area of the refrigerant inlet side connected to a discharge muffler is smaller than that of the refrigerant side connected to the refrigerant discharge chamber and the ratio between the sectional areas of the first and the second refrigerant discharge side varys according to a displacement.
