Process for the degradation of organic compounds in aqueous solution by ozonation and sunlight irradiation. Sunlight irradiation can be direct or indirect. Ozonation and irradiation can be carried out simultaneously or can be carried out irradiation after ozonation. Ozonation may be performed in the presence of a catalyst in homogeneous phase. The procedure applies to the purification of contaminated water.
