System for protection against the illegal use and license management of software based on independent processing devices and cryptography.System for anti-copy protection and license management of software that uses a processing device resistant to physical attacks (i.e. a smart card) containing a pair of asymmetrical keys, based on the fact that during the production phase of the software some sections are substituted using a code that must be executed in the device, these sections are encrypted using an asymmetrical encryption system. To use the software, an encrypted license is generated with the device's public key (and therefore specific to the device) that contains, among other things, the symmetrical key with which the protected code sections were encrypted, and information about the conditions of use. This license is stored on the device, which later manages and uses it for executing the software. Foreseen is also its application for protecting software and data in mobile computer environments and the sale of information.
