Method for treating seed with water, which means that the seed in contact, over a defined period in an closed chamber containing one or more surfaces of heat exchange with a gas having a water content controlled, while substantially direct contact between seed and water in liquid form is avoided, and made to flow water through the chamber so that water in the gas phase may be absorbed by the seeds within the chamber, wherein the temperature one or more surfaces of heat exchange is regulated to a temperature that is higher than the water flowing through the chamber.
