Hydrocarbon base oil for lubricants, which has a viscosity index (VI) greater than or equal to 130, mainly comprising long, isoparaffinic hydrocarbon chains comprising a number of carbon atoms greater than 25 and branched on several carbon atoms, characterized because these hydrocarbon chains have a relationship between the number of substitutes composed of at least two carbon atoms and the number of methyl substituents greater than or equal to 0.9, and because these chains have a ratio greater than or equal to 0.23 between the number of substituents composed of at least two carbon atoms and the number of long chain CH2 groups.
