GLOBAL EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT MODELING SYSTEM FOR SUBSTRATE MOUNTED CIRCUIT COMPONENTS INCORPORATING SUBSTRATE DEPENDENT CHARACTERISTICS

This is a substrate dependent circuit modeling system for substrate-mountedcomponents (figure 10). The height and dielectric constant of a substrate havea significant impact on the frequency response of such components, and theseeffects cannot be treated independently. The circuit modeling system includessteps of selecting a substrate mounted electrical circuit component for whichan equivalent circuit model is desired, determining equivalent circuit modelinput parameters, wherein some of which are dependent upon characteristics ofthe substrate upon which the component is mounted, for the selected component,representing the selected electrical circuit component mounted upon thesubstrate as an equivalent electric circuit, formulating mathematicalexpressions based upon the input parameters, and creating a unique equivalentcircuit model for the component mounted upon the given substrate (10), theunique equivalent circuit model representing the mounting of the componentupon the given substrate wherein the equivalent circuit model providesbehavior and performance predictions of the component based upon the givensubstrate characteristics.
