The invention relates to a method for detecting and/or identifying Gram-positive bacteria having a high GC content, especially mycobacteria. The inventive method comprises a nucleic acid amplification reaction and a subsequent hybridisation reaction with suitable primers and probes. The invention also relates to oligonucleotides, compositions, solid phases and kits which can be used to carry out the inventive method.
