Method for transforming a 1,2-disubstituted epoxide cycle into its alpha-diketone derivative

Process for the direct transformation of a 1,2-disubstituted epoxide compound to its alpha-diketone derivative involves oxidation in the presence of a suitable amount of a bismuth salt and/or a compound able to generate it in situ, and a ring-opening activator. An Independent claim is also included for the compounds obtained by the process.
