MDT(A), A NEW EFFLUX PROTEIN CONFERRING MULTIPLE ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE, AND USES THEREFOR

Methods of identifying compounds which modulate multidrug resistance in microbes are provided. Such methods comprise e.g., determining the effects of such compounds on the activity or expression of a Mdt(A) protein. The subject methods are useful, e.g., in the identification of compounds that reduce multidrug efflux mediated by the Mdt(A) protein and can thereby reduce multidrug resistance in microbial cells.
