The portable electrical energy consumer e.g. a mobile telephone, is supplied with power by a rechargeable battery that receives energy input from a thin solar energy cell. The solar cell is in the form of a flexible foil that is laminated onto the back surface. The cell is based upon a thin silicon crystal wafer to which is bonded a metal or aluminium foil and is covered by a foil of transparent plastic. The crystal wafer is formed from three mono-crystal regions (1,2,3) which meet in the middle (M). Each region takes up a respective angle and is composed of Ä111Ü planar crystals. IMAGE
